Duncan has always been interested in houses. As a lad he wanted to be a real estate agent but changed tack, and instead of selling houses, decided to build them instead. Now as Orange’s new project manager, he brings to the role five years working as a builder straight out of school, a year on his OE as an account manager for a construction supply company and six years as a project manager during the Christchurch rebuild for Horncastle Homes.
The Nelson boy at heart is chuffed to have returned with his family to the place where he grew up while working for a company that he respects. “It’s really exciting to be working for Orange. They’ve got a great reputation in the marketplace. My parents-in-law built with them and couldn’t recommend them highly enough.”
As for the role itself, Duncan finds it hugely satisfying using his building industry expertise to project manage a build from start to finish. “I really like helping people. From organising all the trades so the job runs on time, managing quality control and the budget, to liaising with the client, ultimately it’s all about helping people get into their new home.”
On weekends, when Duncan is not perusing the Property Press, he loves enjoying the region’s great outdoors with his young family or playing sport with mates.
“I'm really into all sports - whether it's playing with mates in some game we've conjured up or just getting down to the local sports ground to watch two local teams battle it out. I love watching any time Nelson or New Zealand is playing too as I'm very proud and passionate about our amazing city and country!”
