Sales Consultant

After working in the timber industry for 25 plus years in senior management roles, Ian changed tack three years ago to work in the home building industry. His move to become a sales consultant was prompted by his enjoyment of project managing his own house builds some years earlier.

“I really enjoyed the process – I project managed the builds myself and learned the ins and outs of the building process, and the costs that can be incurred. I have also learnt the complexities of building on sloping sites and what that can involve.”

Ian joined Orange at the beginning of 2018, making the move from another local home-building company.

“I really enjoy Orange for its company culture and the experienced team. It certainly makes my job a lot easier.

“The best part about this role is being given the license to help people create their dream home. Other home building companies tend to steer people toward their existing range. At Orange, it’s all about giving people what they want.

“It’s extremely rewarding helping clients design their own home. It’s about being a good listener and paying attention to detail. I can create plans to scale – combining elements of existing plans or designing something completely new from scratch – before the plan gets passed on to our draughting team.

“Ever since I’ve been in this game, I’ve been giving people what they want and that’s the part I like. I’ve only ever sold one house off the original plan.”

When he’s not nutting out creative house plans for clients, Ian enjoys golfing, mountain biking and fishing in the Sounds.
